  50. <title>Using Configuration Manager</title>
  51. <para>Configuration Manager is the utility with which we configure the
  52. HPCC platform. The HPCC platform's configuration is stored in an XML file
  53. named <emphasis role="bold">environment.xml</emphasis>. When you install a
  54. package, a default single-node environment.xml is generated. After that,
  55. you can use the Configuration Manager to modify it and add nodes and
  56. configure components.</para>
  57. <para>The Configuration Manager Wizard creates a similar file, but after
  58. it is generated, you must rename it and put it into place on each
  59. node.</para>
  60. <para>Configuration Manager also offers an <emphasis role="bold">Advanced
  61. View</emphasis> which allows you to add instances of components or change
  62. the default settings for components. Even if you plane to use Advanced
  63. View, it is a good idea to start with a wizard generated configuration and
  64. use Advanced View to finish it.</para>
  65. <para>This document will guide you through configuring an HPCC environment
  66. using the Configuration Manager.</para>
  67. <sect1 id="configuring-a-multi-node-system">
  68. <title>Running the Configuration Manager</title>
  69. <para>This document will guide you through configuring an HPCC
  70. environment using the Configuration Manager.</para>
  71. <para>The HPCC package should already be installed on ALL nodes.</para>
  72. <para>You can use any tool or shell script you choose.</para>

  76. sudo privileges. We would suggest that it would be the first node,
  77. and that it is a support node, however that is up to your
  78. discretion.</para>

  83. you use the same node to start the Configuration Manager every time,

  96. use the <emphasis role="bold">Generate environment wizard</emphasis> and
  97. use that environment or experienced users can then use the <emphasis
  98. role="bold">Advanced View</emphasis> for more specific customization.
  99. There is also the option of using <emphasis role="bold">Create blank
  100. environment</emphasis> to generate an empty environment that you could
  101. then go in and add only the components you would want.</para>

  1772. minus 2GB (for the OS and other processes) is sensible. You should

  1775. globalMemorySize must be configured to take that into
