  1. <h2>DESCRIPTION</h2>
  2. <em>r.out.ascii</em> converts a user-specified raster map layer
  3. (<b>input=</b><em>name</em>) into an ASCII grid in a text file
  4. (<b>output=</b><em>name</em>) suitable for export to
  5. other computer systems.
  6. <p>
  7. The GRASS program <em><a href="r.in.ascii.html">r.in.ascii</a></em> can be
  8. used to perform the reverse function, converting an ASCII file in suitable
  9. format to GRASS raster map format.
  10. <p><!--With <b>-s</b> flag SURFER .grd ASCII GRID instead of GRASS ASCII GRID is
  11. written (with reverted row order, different header).
  12. <p>With <b>-m</b> flag MODFLOW (USGS) free-format array instead of GRASS ASCII
  13. GRID is written.-->
  14. <p>To write a SURFER .grd ASCII GRID file (with reverted row order and different
  15. header) use the <em>-s</em> flag:
  16. <div class="code"><pre>
  17. r.out.ascii -s input=inname output=outname.grd [dp=value]
  18. </pre></div>
  19. NULL data are coded to "1.70141e+038" for SURFER ASCII GRID files (ignoring
  20. the <em>null=</em> parameter).
  21. <h2>NOTES</h2>
  22. The output from <em>r.out.ascii</em> may be placed into a file by using the
  23. UNIX redirection mechanism; e.g.:
  24. <div class="code"><pre>
  25. r.out.ascii input=soils output=- &gt; out.file
  26. </pre></div>
  27. The output file out.file can then be printed or copied onto a CDROM
  28. or floppy disk for export purposes.
  29. <p>To export the raster values as x,y,z values of cell centers (one per line)
  30. use the <em><a href="r.out.xyz.html">r.out.xyz</a></em> module.
