  1. ######### PREREQUISITE
  2. In order to use this program, you need to have the program "mpeg_encode",
  3. available from Berkeley:
  4. http://bmrc.berkeley.edu/frame/research/mpeg/mpeg_encode.html
  5. or "ppmtompeg" from the netpbm package:
  6. http://netpbm.sourceforge.net
  7. Both source code and binaries for several platforms are available.
  8. ## old:
  9. After successful compilation, put the executable named "mpeg_encode" in
  10. a bin/ directory that any users of GRASS have in their path
  11. (I put it in /usr/local/bin or you could put it in $(GISBASE)/bin)
  12. If you intend to use ppmtompeg, make sure you make a soft link to it:
  13. ln -s /usr/bin/ppmtompeg /usr/local/bin/mpeg_encode
  14. ## /old
  15. ## new:
  16. Make sure the "mpeg_encode" or "ppmtompeg" binary executable is somewhere
  17. in the PATH.
  18. ## /new
  19. I have mpeg_encode version 1.3 and found one bug that you may need to fix (it's been
  20. reported, but probably not fixed in the current release yet):
  21. mpeg_encode version 1.3, file param.c, around line 770:
  22. } else {
  23. strcpy(inputFileEntries[numInputFileEntries]->left, input);
  24. inputFileEntries[numInputFileEntries]->glob = FALSE;
  25. inputFileEntries[numInputFileEntries]->numFiles = 1;
  26. /********* I added this line to FIX bug: ************/
  27. inputFileEntries[numInputFileEntries]->numPadding = 0;
  28. }

  30. ######### MPEG Players
  31. There are a couple of versions for X that I know of:
  32. The standard player -
  33. ftp://mm-ftp.cs.berkeley.edu/pub/multimedia/mpeg/play/
  34. Debian package (+source code):
  35. http://packages.debian.org/ucbmpeg-play
  36. An enhanced version of above with Motif playback controls:
  37. (ftp site no longer functional??)
  38. ftp ftp.geom.umn.edu
  39. /priv/daeron/bin/mpeg_play-arch.tar.Z (where arch = your machine architecture)
  40. There are also Public Domain or shareware players available
  41. for Windows and MacIntosh at various sites on the internet.

  43. ######### THIS VERSION:
  44. Added the -c option for "on the fly" conversion (using prerequisite
  45. r.out.ppm with stdout option, available on moon.cecer.army.mil). This
  46. saves disk space, but can only be used when there is a single viewframe.
  47. Use of this option will also override any size specification, producing
  48. an MPEG with the dimensions of the CURRENTLY DEFINED GRASS REGION. So
  49. set your region carefully before using this option.
